It's Good to Have Friends in Low Places

So this one just has to have it's own post since yesterday's was so long and was suppose to be posted yesterday, but if you read it you know why it wasn't. Well today was another great day in the Last Frontier. So we all had to be packed and meet in the lobby at 8:30 this morning because it's the last day of Welcome Wagon. Well, I was wondering what I was gonna do from 8:30 until 2:30 when my plane leaves, hmmm. It turns out that I ended up going to a pet store with Randy, one of the district's tech guys, and Jori. So it was some roomie bonding. I think Jori and I are going to get along really well. I think we are gonna be really good friends as the up coming months pass. She reminds me so much of Bekah, just a free spirit with a good head on her shoulders. So we just hung out until her plane left and then I played with my new phone, so cool, until my plane was ready to leave.

We are on board the plane and it's open seating so I just took the front seat that doesn't have a window, good job there genius! Then right before the plane's gonna take off the co-pilot tells us that because of weight issues some of the bags didn't make it on the plane and will be on the next flight, which is tomorrow. So I was hoping that at least one if not both made it! Yeah no! That didn't happen. We arrive in Unalakleet and like five bags made it, mine was not among the five. So no clothes, no soap, no blanket, no pillow, nothing! I'm so thankful that people up here are so nice! Ted, the human resources guy, got me the necessities: pillow, blanket, toothbrush, toothpaste, and towel. Also Teresa and Jori said they'd lend me things to use until I get my stuff. God I really hope it comes tomorrow!!! So yesterday's hike, today's mishap, am I done for a while? Please!

Oh and to make things even better I met my principal, Sandra, she's really nice and I think she's going to be very helpful this year, but she gave me my reality check about Little Diomede and I'm freaking out a bit. I know that I can do this, but I need my little freak out moment. Apparently I'm in charge of K/1 and my aide is in charge of the second and third graders. Plus Diomede has so many issues, but I figured that because of all the inbreeding and the size of the village. But the real concerns are lying with the weather. I've been told the sugar coated versions of the weather on the island. So once I'm on the island there's no getting off! What the hell have I gotten myself into!? It's very cold, VERY windy, and travel around Christmas, so I'm told, is very expensive and a HUGE pain in the you know what! So basically I have to one) book through the airlines and two) spread out my flights over days; like fly to Anchorage and stay there a day or two. So there goes my weekend trip with the girls :( It'll all work out and I need to stay positive because I haven't even started and having doubts. Doubts go away!! Everything will go well, I know I can do this! I just need my little panic attack then I'll be good to take on Little Diomede.

Peace on Earth: the only restaurant in the village. Good food!
